Hi Joy

What a Joy it is to read your newsletter. Your insight, turn of phrase, curiosity, enthusiasm for life in grand and small ways. I’m in Canada. So this s**t that is going on in the US seems unbelievable and frightening.

I’m currently on deployment for the RedCross working with indigenous community who are evacuated due to flooding which seems purposeful in the context of upheaval.

We can still have a positive impact as witness your bright newsletter. Stay well

Suzanne

Thank you for your kind words. I never know whether this newsletter gets out there. Sounds like you are doing good things— where is this flooded community?

Oh thank you for the visuals of Italy. It has been over 20 years since I last visited and would love to be there now! I especially love the word installation "it is not the end of the world". hopeful.

My earliest experiences with Italy (1960s) were not great, so it makes me very happy to experience it in recent years, especially in the off season, when it’s not so crowded.

I have not been in that part of of Italy, but have been to Italy many times...and Annecy. We biked around the lake. It is beautiful. It is wonderful to live vicariously through your travels and into your artful mind

I'm delighted to bring you along. Biking around Lac d'Annecy is quite a feat. I've never done it. Better in the off-season when there are fewer tourists.

I do so love love love the sandwich filling, Joy ... Why must it always be stuck between pieces of Trump bread? We don't need to be reminded. It is not enough to deplore. We need to be helped quickly and frequently to accept that he IS - with equanimity, and possibly with gratitude that he might single-handedly be the catalyst for finally dismantling the dominant white male European-rooted American model of unfettered capitalism and all the harms thereto pertaining. We NEED him to really wake us up. And each time our eyelids are ripped open again (because how can we avoid that?), we need to turn our attention IMMEDIATELY back on ourselves and ask, What is my next right step? How do I get my heart right with the Universe? How can I love my enemy and be an instrument of peace?

Not everyone is as woke as I wish, so I feel compelled to include some bread with the filling. But no fear. London (next stop) is at least as tasty.

I loved the break from you know who and the wonderful photos from your trip to Italy. My favorites: breakfast chocolate and the sculpture that looked like scissors. Enjoy the rest of your trip and savor your time with your son and his family!
