I just ordered Meditations for Mortals. I have been meeting for coffee with FB friends I have never met and friends I haven't seen in ages. Are you game? My approach is to fill up with light—good people, great conversation, and meaningful connections—to keep the darkness from taking me over. Thanks for sharing 😊
AND also, based on your mention of E.B. White, I bought a copy of his short article from 1949 Harper's Bazaar, Here is New York. So much that he said (so beautifully) in 1949, is still true today. Both the good stuff and the bad stuff.
Thanks for this Joy. New York City has just begun composting and I love it, because putting my food garbage in the back stairwell composting bin keeps my kitchen garbage clean for days and days. In the neighborhoods where this program began 18 months ago, there was a 40% decrease in reports of rats. No, we will never totally get rid of rats, but that's a BIG change.
Our local recycling centers are now taking table scraps for composting, and I really need to start doing this. I still recycle all my paper, plastic, and cans, even though I am not all that confident that they don't just end up in the dump. I've been doing it so long that I can't stop now! As far as finding beauty, I'm making a conscious effort to find things that I am grateful for every morning before I get out of bed, and I am also trying to get back into the habit of daily meditation as well as cultivating moments of mindfulness during the day. Walking outside is also a way to clear my head and look for beauty. Not much, but it's enough for me.
Joy, it seems you need not look any further than your very own family for that light. You are truly blessed and fortunate, and I can say that after only a month or so that I’ve been hanging around! Lucky woman, you must be doing something right… your kids, your grandkids, you are bringing joy to this life! Blessed Christmas and thank you! 🥰
Hooray for you! I've been recycling nearly everything for decades. I live in a red rural area that doesn't offer recycling so I have to pack mine up several times a month and carry it to a recycling facility in Nashville (a BLUE city!) It's just what I do. I live on some acreage so the woods around me are my composters!! Hang in there!
Thank you, beautiful lady! from another older lady (77) living in the PNW. I will get a copy of Meditations for Mortals. Thanks for helping to look for the light and beauty.
Thank you.

I am fortunate to have them, even if the youngest ones live in France.
Ohh… Especially if they live in France and if you are needing a reason to visit France!
Oh! Excited for you! Let me know your response to his ideas...
Absolutely! Would love to see you. It’s been years!
