A lot of us have "thoughts and feelings" these days. I hope we act accordingly. Hugs back. Miss you!

Racial justice, immigrants rights, criminal justice. Asterix reproductive and abortion, rights, food insecurity. I am looking for more voices of color, particularly women to follow on Substack. I currently follow Roxane Gay, Shea Stewart-Boulet and Ijeoma Oluo, for starters and I have begun supporting black and multiracial nonprofits around the country that are doing the good work and rarely get recognition. I am happy to add them if there’s interest and when you cover nonprofits. At 76 I share many of your reflections and confess that fuck is one of my favorite words. I have begun following a brash young Ish, white woman, JoJo fromJerz, who’s raised “fuck“ to its highest level lol.

I'm with you here. You can mention these folks in the comments at the post I wrote a couple of days after this one. https://joyoverstreet.substack.com/p/how-to-be-alive-with-joy

JoJo has definitely got the corner on the fuck-word market.

Joy, love this post! I shared it on my Facebook page and my daughter wrote this comment:

Laurie Millender Levine

Love an 80 something who drops the F bomb! I'm behind HER all the way, the hell

with the f-ing billionaires!

Happy to hear approval of my use of profanity. You have no idea how often they come out of my mouth as I check the news

Good for you, Joy. My kids make fun of me because I won't say the "f" word out loud. I guess I am still intimidated by my father's potential disapproval - even though he has been gone for over 30 years!

I learned how to cuss like a sailor during our four years at college. (Though I think it was more hanging out in the Cambridge folk scene that did it.)

I guess I missed "Cussing 101" in college - and I probably did more hanging out at The Well than in Cambridge. You were always ahead of the times!

I'm 75, and like you, may never again see a truly great America again! But I don't CARE that I'm old! I'm not scared of the Felon and will fight him and his band of thieves every way I can. So far I have joined and donated to the ACLU, Lawyers Defending American Democracy, the Obama Foundation, Earth Justice, VoteVets, Governors Safeguarding Democracy, Americans of Conscience, Open Secrets, and Democracy Docket. I don't watch news on TV but I follow YOU, Robert Hubbell, a bunch of Substack writers, Guardian writers, Bulwark writers, NPR, AP and others. I also am part of a Facebook page called Rational Voices where the folks are smart, informed and polite. For me, personally, it's about not buying any products from companies that supported the Felon while making an effort to buy products from companies that supported Harris/Biden. And I've made lists of all those companies if anyone else wants to do the same. Just email janfordemocracy@gmail.com and I'll send you the lists in PDF format....FREE!! Hooray for old ladies!

Women's lives, Women's Rights should be on that list. After all, we're dying from these draconian monsters dreams of a theocracy.

Absolutely. The list of areas of concern are legion; my list was only partial. What non-profits do you suggest could use our money and/or time? Who do you follow to stay up to date on these issues?

You made me think! You gave me hope that I could do something to make a difference!

And you made me look at e-mails I had been deleting without ever thinking or checking them out. In Texas we can vote in a primary without being registered for that party. So, in 2016 I voted in the Republican Primary to vote AGAINST Trump. From that time on I seemed to get a bunch of e-mails that I never looked at and just deleted. Thanks to your post I now know there are at least two I should pay attention to: The Bullwark and Robert Reich. I do receive, thanks to you and several mutual friends Heather Cox Richardson's letters and faithfully read her posts. Now, to figure what I am called to actually do......... thank you and keep after us and inspiring us to speak up and act.

It is scary to speak up inside a conservative community. I bet there are many in your position in your area who think they’re alone. Somehow you need to find each other and make it acceptable to speak your truths.

I was just sent a link to Alive with Joy and loved it and just now subscribed. I have no tolerance for any pundits or so-called analysts who never recognize the role racism and sexism played in the election. I'm 82 and not giving up and I'll donate and work to elect democrats for the mid-terms.In the meantime I'm supporting Black Votes Matter and the ACLU.

I am fed up with legacy media and I subscribe to MeidasTouch Network, MTN. They are a pro-democracy new network independently owned and operated. I read and listen to them on Youtube and they have over 3 million subscribers and often have more viewers than Fox. They are candid and refreshing and I trust them. There's no sane-washing with them!
